Swirly Whirly / My Little Pony, Sundae Best Collection

Why I chose this costume:

Some of my friends from the Eternal Senshi group wanted me to also take part in a My Little Pony group. The leader of the group picked the Sundae Best ponies from 1985 and I was excited to be Swirly Whirly.

How I made this costume:

I made the entire costume in four days. I used baby soft yellow fabric (which was both fuzzy and warm) and created a romper from scratch (no patterns used). I thought a romper would be a nice change from the normal dress design most pony cosplay end up having, as well as a good reflection of the ’80s. The mane and tail are made from two wigs I bought off eBay and her cutie marks are made of a few pieces of felt that were painted, and have stitched detailing. The ears were bought from Yaya Han. I wore purple contacts to match the purple eyes of Swirly Whirly and my shoes are from my Snow White costume. I also surprised our group with hand-stitched barrettes to match the ones that originally came with our ponies in the box!

Thoughts on this costume:

The costume was so comfortable and our pony group got a lot of attention. I had a blast being a pony and even ended up in one of Chad Vader’s videos on YouTube (the very first Dragon*Con 2011 one)!
