Anima / Final Fantasy X
Why I chose this costume:
Anima’s story is a sad one. Anima’s true form was that of a mother who was shunned from her home due to having a son who was of mixed races. In order to help her son become more powerful so he could defeat Sin (the enemy who plagued the world in which they lived) and thus be accepted by everyone, she gave up her life to become an Aeon (a Summon). Unfortunately for her, he would summon her for evil deeds instead of good ones and this is why her Aeon form is so pained and hard to look at.
How I made this costume:
Anima was made with polar fleece fabric, and had lots of hand-painted and hand-sewn details! She is about 14″ tall and has a squeaker in her lower head included for the punchline of a skit. She took about two weeks to create from scratch with no patterns. I tore arms off a Barbie doll and painted the purple for her human arms. Her shell has sewn detailing and she is stuffed with polyester stuffing. Her single eye is a blue, Swarovski crystal. Her chains are smaller necklace chains that are stitched into place to hold them in the right places. The hair on her lower form is made of snip-its from a boa. I also had to saw apart beads and glue them back together to create the proper dangles and accessories.
Thoughts on this costume:
I have a new respect and love for the ultimate Aeon after creating her for a FFX group. SO MUCH RESEARCH! But I love her very much!
