Witch / Tribute to All Things Haunting
- Comics & Movies
Why I chose this costume:
I once auditioned to be in an upcoming indie movie and I not only got a part, but landed a main role! It was exciting and hectic working around the Director’s schedule and the shooting schedule, but the location was beautiful and the movie was a blast to record. I was even lucky enough to be able to rework my costume to better fit myself and the character of Witch.
How I made this costume:
The initial dress was purchased by the costuming department. I was given permission to take ownership of the dress and edit it as I saw fit. I liked the black, crushed velvet and purple ribbons but felt the dress needed more. I removed the black chest panel and replaced it with a flesh-tone panel. I added a gold and black cording to lace up the front of the costume and pull a more magical look together. I cut and sewed together a petticoat of black, purple and gold tulle which I added beneath the dress to add flair and a hint of color.
I bought a witch hat and added a ribbon trim that included black, purple and gold, and I added a purple satin to the base of the hat in the hope that it would catch the lighting and light my face a bit better than solid black would.
Thoughts on this costume:
Although the movie never saw the light of day (to my knowledge), I had so much fun with the process. I still have my script and this costume hangs proudly in my closet. It was a super fun costume to wear and film in, despite the heat and sun of Texas.
