Why I chose this costume:
Abigail “Fetch” Walker is a badass from the game InFAMOUS Second Son. She’s a conduit who controls Neon as her power and tends to “shoot first, ask questions later”. When I first saw her in the game and heard her New Jersey accent, I just knew she was meant for me. I couldn’t wait to pull together her iconic look.
For some context on her character: Fetch has had a rough life, as the minute her powers made themselves known her parents became afraid of her and called authorities to have her taken away. Her older brother, Brent, grabs their coats and they ran. They ended up crossing the country from New Jersey to Seattle, Washington. During their running away, Brent introduced Fetch to drugs and she was quickly hooked, becoming a junkie at a young age. After a trauma-inducing event, Fetch ditches the drugs and swears revenge on every drug dealer she can find.
How I made this costume:
After I completed my first Fetch cosplay, I immediately made a list of things to change and correct to make her more accurate. I started by buying a new wig that was a great cranberry color, knowing it would photograph lighter. I styled it myself, cutting the bangs and length to the right size and then used hairspray to keep the bangs in their familiar swoop and keep the bun looking neat. I remade her entire shirt, buying a new white shirt and hand-painting the silent skull design on it. I hand-dyed the bottom of the shirt with a mix of pink and dark brown fabric dye. I remade her shorts using much darker color pants which I cut and sewed. For the jacket, I simply restrung the ties to be on the inside, instead of showing from the outside. I bought new tights and sliced them up using the “shaving leg” method and accurately mimicked the ripped up look she wears. The boots, leg warmers and accessories were left untouched, although I did buy a better nose ring.
Thoughts on this costume:
This version of Fetch has been worn so many times and I was even honored to visit Sucker Punch Productions studio while in cosplay to thank the developers and team for giving Fetch life. It was so lovely to meet everyone and I enjoyed them geeking out over my cosplay. A blog about this adventure will be posted soon.
I am very happy with this version of Fetch from InFAMOUS Second Son! She looks much more accurate and wearing her makes me happy. As I couldn’t bring myself to throw my older version away, I simply bagged it up and retired the pieces. Fetch is quickly becoming a character that people know me for and I couldn’t be more thrilled about that. I have several other outfit versions of her if you’d like to see more of this badass:
