Catwoman / Catwoman, Version: Kotobukiya Bishoujo
Why I chose this costume:
I love the Kotobukiya bishoujo figures of popular characters and really like their interpretation of Catwoman. Since my friend, Jelfish, was going to put together a Kotobukiya bishoujo version of Black Cat, I thought I’d finally tackle this version of Catwoman and we could go prowling together.
In case you need to better understand who Catwoman is: An orphan who learned to survive on Gotham City’s streets, Selina Kyle took to thievery to survive, but determined to do it in her own style. She learned martial arts and trained extensively to perfect her own skills at cat burglary. Her criminal activities as Catwoman are often tempered by a reluctant altruism, making her an inconstant villain and occasional heroine. She steals objects with feline names of motifs. She regularly eludes capture by the Dark Knight, and maintains a complicated, adversarial relationship with Batman that frequently turns flirtatious and occasionally romantic. Both Catwoman and Batman are strong allies. (Bio from Arkham City Wiki.)
How I made this costume:
Catwoman has always been my favorite comic character and I’ve wanted to redo my original Catwoman suit for a while now. I bought a better-fitting body suit from Skinzwear.com (NSFW site), then purchased all new accessories from ebay: cowl, goggles, gloves, boots, and whip. I modified the cowl to change the cut of the front of it and added a neck closure with a single buckle. I made my own belt from reinforced leather and added a clip to it so I can hold my whip at my side. The gloves were modified with cat claws, one each per fingertip. The bodysuit had the most adjustments made as I took apart the arms and resewed these smaller for a better fit. I also modified the zipper with a circle clasp.
Thoughts on this costume:
I am so excited to have Catwoman back in my costume arsenal! I plan on wearing her to many more conventions and possibly to some local comic book shops as well.
