Why I chose this costume:

In a universe away from ours, Gwen Stacy is bitten by a radioactive spider and becomes Spider-Gwen! She has pretty similar powers to Peter Parker’s Spider-Man but does so with an added grace and style all her own. She can also time travel which comes in handy later on in her comics as she adopts a new alias and a new job to match her name…

How I made this costume:

Ever since reading her comic line, I wanted to pay tribute to this fun, feminine take on Spider-Man. I already owned the leggings and bought a pair of blue contacts, some spiked, blue platform sneakers, a black headband, pink glasses and a pair of lace gloves. For the oversized hoodie, I cut up three separate hoodies and sewed them back together to get all the patterns in the correct places. I also hand-painted the spider webs on the inside of the hood.

Thoughts on this costume:

This was one of my favorite cosplay to wear, even though at the time hardly anyone knew who I was. I really wish this cosplay survived, but after Anime Expo I tossed it in the wash and all the red pieces dyed the white ones pink, so it was retired. Lesson learned–always wash your fabrics before you use them to create a cosplay!
