Why I chose this costume:

The creator of Animaniacs was going to be at Dragon Con this year and my friends wanted to do something wild and cosplay the main characters from the show. I offered to be Dot since I was deemed “the cute one” in our friend group and then we were all planning and sharing links and ideas so our outfits would all match.

How I made this costume:

The fluffy feet and puffy gloves were bought from Amazon, as well as the solid black, hooded leotard. I used pink cotton fabric and sewed a quick circle skirt, adding elastic in the waistband to make it easy to put on and take off. The tail, ears and cheek fluff are all made from black polar fleece and stuffed with tulle to keep them light and easy to pack. The tail is actually on its’ own elastic band that goes on before the skirt and then it slides through a tail hole I cut into the skirt itself to keep everything in place. The flower is sewn to a thin, black elastic and slipped over the ears. The ears and cheek fluff are attached to a black headband and worn over the hood of the leotard.

Sketch (Yakko) provided the red noses, which we all adjusted to fit our faces. He also suggested the paint we used for the paw pads on the base of our slippers and that we should emphasize the toe separation of the slippers by hand-stitching in black embroidery thread. This really made them pop in photos! He also helped with our makeup, as the white and black face paint had to be applied in layers, with added setting spray while we all took turns to let it all set in place. The whole makeup process took about an hour for each of us.

Thoughts on this costume:

This was the first time I used heavy face paint and it was a process, for sure. The overall look was perfection though, so I am not complaining. It also all came off easily enough and we worked to make sure none of us had any rogue white or black on our faces afterward.

I really loved posing in cute ways while Yakko (Sketch) and Wakko (Scarlet) just kinda did their thing behind me. We even had a guest star of Hello, Nurse (Bry) join us for our little group. We had a zillion photos taken and had such a blast in these comfy, fun outfits!
