Why I chose this costume:
Stella Chuu wanted to toss together a huge group Eevee evolutions cosplay at Dragon Con using bunny suits she personally sketched out for each evolution. I was invited into the circle to tackle one and chose Umbreon, the dark-type pokemon. Its pokèdex entry says, “When exposed to the moon’s aura, the rings on its body glow faintly and it gains a mysterious power.” I love it!
How I made this costume:
I had to make a bunny suit from scratch and it had to be using a specific pattern for this look. I did my best but also altered the crotch piece to be a bit wider for more modest comfort. The boning of the bunny suit is all steel. The tights were bought from WeLoveColors.com. The stiletto shoes also had to match everyone else’s, so we placed an order for those online. We also all had different pokèball cufflinks in our cuffs!
I made my own choker from black ribbon around a gold ring. The cuffs were made from gold, shiny, stretch fabric and a light interfacing to keep their shape. The same shiny material was used in the hip rings sewn into the bunny suit. I used a grommet tool and a thin interfacing on the inside of the bunny suit to attach four, gold grommets to each hip and string a black ribbon through these for some extra flair. The ears were patterned out and sewn using the same black fabric as the bunny suit and the same gold fabric used for the cuffs and hip rings. These slid onto a black headband and secured in place with some additional stitches. My tail is also made with the same fabrics as everything else and stuffed with tulle to keep it light and upright, and was sewn directly into the bunny suit. I also sewed invisible straps to the top of this bunny suit for comfort and to ensure it stayed in place, which were hidden by my wig.
Thoughts on this costume:
Bunny suits are very difficult to make and I have respect for anyone who makes these quite often. They are super fun to wear (though these shoes were killers) and we all looked so amazing and good in every shot! I loved my darker makeup and red contacts for this look, too. We were even featured on Kotaku! Huge thank you to Stella for having me in this dream group of hers and for sharing her designs with us so we could all match and be our best, bunny selves.
