Jigsaw Killer / Saw

Why I chose this costume:

I love the Saw movies and when a friend commissioned me for a full Jigsaw Killer cosplay, I had to jump at the chance. The Jigsaw Killer kills people not out of a desire for murder, but rather to teach them a lesson about appreciating their lives. Jigsaw believes that many people take their lives for granted and are not truly living. He also hopes his victims will abandon what he considers to be their vices.

How I made this costume:

As the commissioner was out of state, I had to get measurements over the phone and work with these numbers alone. I bought some amazing polyester/cotton blend fabric in black and red as well as thin foam and interfacing and a zipper. I created a pattern from scratch and sewed together the classic black and red cloak that Jigsaw wears. It’s fully lined and comfortable to wear, being not too heavy nor hot for walking in. The cuffs and collar have added foam to keep their shapes. The hood was simple to make and add to the cloak, also fully lined in matching red fabric used for the inside of the cloak. The red bias tape is sewn on with mitered corners around the edge of the whole costume. I sewed a small clasp behind the bottom, smaller angles of the collar to keep it closed and comfortable to wear.

Thoughts on this costume:

I was so incredibly proud of this one once done with it. I sent it along to my friend and he wore it proudly at the Rock & Shock convention. The wild thing was that Tobin Bell (the actor behind the Jigsaw Killer) was present at this convention and my friend got to meet him wearing this cosplay! I’ve been told that, “Tobin Bell himself was extremely impressed by the costume. He studied it in detail when we were meeting him. Multiple celebrities also loved it! We will be sending you pictures and memorabilia from the event.” He apparently really loved it and even mentioned that it was better than the one he had to wear in the original movie. What an incredible honor!
