Lolita / Original Coord

Why I chose this costume:

Lolita is a distinct Japanese fashion involving frilly dresses, cute platform shoes, lots of lace, bows and simply looking as cute and doll-like as possible. I’ve never owned anything lolita until this meet. My friends both wanted to attend and since it was a twin meet (where people attend in pairs and their lolita outfits match in some way), we decided to attend as triplets.

How I made this costume:

We bought matching dress prints from Bodyline in L518 red, green, and blue. Then we bought matching wigs from Gothic Lolita Wigs in spiral scarlet, raven, and honey bee. Our shoes, tights and purses were up to us to chose ourselves. I created some cute hair accessories in our coordinating dress colors as a surprise for my friends.

The hair accessories can be worn in our hair or on our dresses as they are both clips and pins. I bought fabric squares in red, green, and blue marble, tiny silk flowers, buttons in the shape of card deck suits, and various charms, ribbons and feathers. I measured out the size of the completed accessories I wanted and cut eight petals from the marble fabric (four large and four small) then held them in place with a silk flower. I made a bow from the ribbons, added charms in matching colors, and various card suits to match our dresses and personalities. A single diamond initial, two feathers each, a bit of hot glue and the hair accessories were complete! Many of the other lolita ladies asked about them and urged me to make some to sell. I was grateful my friends loved them enough to wear them all day!

Thoughts on this costume:

Lolita is a way of life for most of the group we met up with and it has my respect as it’s not easy to look so cute and coordinated all the time. I truly appreciate the kindness from this lovely community and I enjoyed being a part of the ATX Lolitas for this meet.

My lovely lolita triplets are Meru (in blue) and Jelfish (in red).
