Pixie / X-Men

Why I chose this costume:

Pixie is the alias of Welch-native Megan Gwynn, who is fairly new to the X-Men team. She has dragonfly-like wings, can fly, teleport to a degree, and uses pixie dust which can cause her enemies to hallucinate and see their wildest nightmare come to life (although Pixie cannot see what they are seeing while under her pixie dust spell). I’ve always wanted to cosplay from the X-Men and since I felt that I wouldn’t do justice to Storm, and that Jean Gray was fairly common, I chose Pixie.

How I made this costume:

I bought a classic black unitard and used four-way stretch yellow to create the yellow leotard from scratch. Using yellow, red, and black craft foam I created the boot covers, arm armor, and trademark X-Men symbols. The wings were purchased from Fancy Fairy and custom colored pearl pink with black veins. Wig and headband were purchased from ebay.

Thoughts on this costume:

I wore this for Halloween and ended up getting my coworkers into the mix as well. We all chose female X-Men and I helped to craft aspects of their costumes (gloves for X-23, shirt for Shadow Cat, glove extensions and cape for Storm) and we ended up entering the annual Halloween Costume Contest at work. When we won we were so very, very excited and we all had a great time as the X-Men team!

My favorite shots from this cosplay are featured by ALP Photography. It was my first time getting photos in a studio setting and they turned out amazing! A huge thank you to Amanda for the posing suggestions and her expertise lighting and camera work.
