Snow White / Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Why I chose this costume:

When I found out one of my favorite cosplayers would be at Dragon Con, we planned to meet up in costume and she suggested we do so as Princesses from Disney. She was already working on Ariel (The Little Mermaid) and another one of her friends was going as Belle (Beauty and the Beast), so after some thought I decided to go as Snow White.

How I made this costume:

I used royal velvet in dark blue for the top, with Casa Satin for the sleeves. The skirt is Casa Sparkle Satin with a layer of thin cotton below it and some pretty lace sewed to that which I found in the dollar bin at Jo-Anns. The gold trim was sewn as is to the top and sleeves. The headband was originally a light red, which I covered in the same fabric as the sleeves and hand made the bow. The white collar is craft foam stuffed inside thick, white cotton fabric. The cape is black and red crushed velvet with a pretty gold clasp that I added for my own, personal touch. The shoes were bought online and I made the bows for them.

Thoughts on this costume:

When the Princess group for Dragon Con fell through, I wore my costume anyway (I am so very, very thrilled with how it came out). I had a fake apple with me for photos, but more people enjoyed the fact that I also had a bird with me (a black-capped chickadee). I’ve worn Snow White several times since then, including to the Halloween Costume Contest at The Art Institute of Austin, a Princess Party in which I surprised the birthday girl by joining her, and at a local Halloween event sponsored by the YMCA.
