Why I chose this costume:

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is the newest generation of the My Little Pony franchise. In this series, Twilight Sparkle has been sent to Ponyville to learn about the magic and power of friendship. She takes her best friend, a baby dragon named Spike, along for the journey. It’s a cute show with a positive message and amazing friendships between many characters.

How I made this costume:

Polar fleece is my friend and I used a lot of it for this one. I used 2-way stretch polar fleece in purple and two shades of green. I basically made a jumper that snaps closed just below the underside of Spike’s tail. I added a hood so I could get all of his trademark spikes in place and used a combination of good sewing skills and a bit of craft foam to help hold them all in place and upright. I sewed gloves with only three fingers to mimic his hands/paws and I also sewed three toes to my boot covers too. I hand-embroidered his elbow and knee swirls. His tail is stuffed with polyester stuffing to help hold its shape. The costume is warm and soft. To complete the look, I have a short purple wig, green contacts, fangs, and a mustache (an inside joke for those who have watched the show).

Thoughts on this costume:

I love how this turned out and I got a lot of hugs for it! Spike is my favorite baby dragon and I’m glad I’m able to cosplay him.
